Fishing charters on Beaufort County waters in South Carolina's coastal Low Country offer the opportunity to fly fish or spin cast on light tackle in the largest saltwater marsh ecosystem on the Atlantic coast. | |
Bordered by the the towns of Beaufort and Port
Royal and the resorts on Hilton Head and Fripp Island, vast expanses of marsh
grasses interspersed with winding tidal creeks create a panorama rich in
natural beauty for our fishing charters. Dolphins, egrets, and herons are
common during a fishing guide's travels. The occasional osprey, bald
eagle, or sea turtle awe with their graceful passage.
Areas above the high tide line provide habitat for
animals and plants that can tolerate some seawater or brackish water.
Trees and shrubs provide habitat for reptiles, deer, fox, muskrats, otters and
birds. Mud flats dotted with oyster rakes drained by the creeks
create an intertidal habitat for shore birds, snails, oysters, and burrowing
worms. With the incoming tide, shrimp, crabs, and fish move onto the
flats from areas that retain some water coverage. The tides are the
dynamic that flushes the system and provides nutrients to keep the food webs
functional, thereby enhancing the estuary’s ability to serve as a nursery for
many species of fish including redfish.
The Low Country's
incredible scenery and the diverse marsh inhabitants viewed on a fishing
charter provide a bonus for both client and fishing guide.
